MOLINE, IL - Race officials have announced an increase in prize money for the 2012 Ruhl and Ruhl Half Marathon. The event, which first introduced prize money in last year's race, has increased the overall half marathon purse by $800. The full marathon prize money structure will remain the same in 2012.
The overall winners in both the men's and women's half race will now receive $500. Runner-up finishers in each division will receive $300, while third-place finishers will receive a $200 check. The race will continue to award $100 to the top local finishers.
Both the men's and women's half course records were set in 2011. The men's winner was Charles Hillig (Denver, CO) in 1:06:45, while Julia Mallon (Santa Rosa, CA) clocked a 1:19:31 to win the women's race.
The total prize money for the marathon and half marathon are outlined here. Overall, between both races, the total prize money awarded is $18,100, with another $5,000 awarded in the marathon for time bonuses, bringing the total possible purse to $23,100.
